Roller Coaster Ride

My last post was on Friday, January 19th. That day was a big down day. Well, Saturday I made back all the money and more. Sunday I made back all the money again. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were all moderate losing days, with Tuesday being a big down day almost as big as the Friday.

I think I am mostly playing OK, but am in the process of reviewing my losing hands to ensure. Certainly there are a few bad plays in there, but mostly I think it is just variance.

Today I am up a little, but am upset about one bad play in particular that was costly.

Not going strong for WSOP 2007

I decided not to make a run for a 2007 WSOP seat. With 3 kids at home, I am not going to try for a seat this year. That does not mean I will play no satellites, but I will only play freerole satellites or satellites with a massive overlay.

If I don't end up winning a seat (half of me really wants to, the other half really does not want to bother with the hubbub again this year), I will save some money from my winnings and probably go to AC a couple times over the summer.

Paying a variance tax

After having a great 3+ week run, things just have not been great this week. Win a bit, lose a bit, and I was showing a modest weekly gain.

That is, until this morning's session.

QQ vs. AA, 98 all in on the flop vs. 77 on a 942 board. KK vs. 74 when donkey calls massive bets and rivers his flush. Etc., etc. I also made 1 or 2 questionable plays - but mainly bad luck, I think. Overall, an awful session that pretty much makes me even since Sunday, I think (have to check both computers to confirm this, but I think that is about right).

Oh well, this is bound to happen sometimes. Hopefully another upswing starts with the next session!

Crushing cash games - wish I had time for tourneys
I have been playing 1/2 NL still - buying in for shorter stacks and just crushing the games. In fact, Saturday was my single best day at cash games ever! It was so good that it made my decent days on Friday and Sunday seem mediocre. I have actually played a fair amount, but it is in short spurts.

I would love to find time to play more tourneys, as I have tournament dollars at both pokerstars and at Ultimate Bet saved up. Thursday night has traditionally been my tournament night - as long as I am not too tired I might try to play the UB $100 at 8:00 Est. and the Pokerstars $150 at 9:00 Eastern. Overall, my time playing will decrease dramatically now that school is back in session, but hopefully I keep winning. :)

My 2007 goals

1. Continue to provide a nice supplemental income for my family. The last 2 years I have made nice side money, which has really helped.

2. Continue with NL cash games. This goes a bit with 1, as I think this is the single most profitable game.

3. Play more "higher buy in" tourneys. Tourneys with buyins of $100 and more. I think I am plus EV in them, so I should play them.

4. Give up on satellites for events with buyins of $500 or less. I think they are simply not +EV enough for me to justify my time away from other ventures.

5. Win a WSOP seat or two again, but make a deep run. This last part is very subject to luck, of course, so all I can really do is to play my "A" game.

Today, I started the new year while continuing to crush 1/2 NL. It is nice to get the new year off to a nice start.
